Decide who packs what
Before buying materials or taking furniture apart, agree what you will pack and what the removal company will handle. Ask about delicate, heavy or unusual items. If packing is included, confirm the timing and what must be ready. Keep this agreement with your inventory rather than relying on a conversation you may forget.
Start with the least-used belongings
Choose one space and pack things you will not need before the move. Give boxes a destination room and a short contents note. Keep the labels readable and follow your mover’s advice about suitable boxes and weight. Put undecided belongings in a separate area so they do not disappear into sealed boxes by accident.
Keep the inventory in step
Update the number of packed boxes as you go. Separate actual counts from estimates for rooms still in use. Tell your mover if the volume changes after quoting. Check drawers, cupboards and storage spaces as part of the same pass so the finished list reflects what will travel.
Plan the last evening and first night
Keep chargers, washing supplies, bedding, a change of clothes and the things your household needs close to hand. Add food and practical items for children or pets as appropriate. Carry important documents and keys separately. Tell the crew which box needs to remain accessible rather than assuming its label alone will determine loading order.
Leave time for a final check
Before collection, walk through every room and outside space against your list. Separate belongings that are staying from the items to be loaded. Ask your mover about appliances or items requiring specialist preparation rather than attempting unfamiliar disconnections. Review the current inventory and access notes before sharing your final Move Pack version.
